Chequers pub

Sorry I’ve been away. Very remiss of me.

The revamped Chequers pub reopened a month or so ago. I’ve been in a few times; initially just for drinks as they hadn’t got their kitchen working.

After being shut for a long time due to the new owners having money problems it is doing very well. They’re used a lot of old furniture to create a ‘Shabby Chic’ look to the place. It actually works and I think adds to making it feel like a venue you can relax in.

They have a good selection of real ales on tap and they clearly focus on London based breweries. The staff are very friendly and welcoming.

My partner and I ate there a couple of weeks ago. It wasn’t too busy on a Saturday night, although we left by 9PM. We both had burgers which were lovely and came with ‘triple fried chips’. The coleslaw was clearly freshly hand made and tasted delicious.

It is clearly aiming for the ‘Village’ end of the social spectrum. But as somebody who lives in the North of the ‘stow this pub is much more viable for a few beers. I really recommend it; the reborn Chequers deserves to do well.
